LYT Mission Statement
Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) ’s mission is to introduce members to a rich tradition of theatre and its contemporary practices by providing theatre training over a two year period for young people from all backgrounds to cross social and cultural divides through youth drama.
LYT’s overall objective is to provide an opportunity for talented youth to express and develop their talent; by providing direction and guidance members to pursue their individual goals, and the chance to meet and work in tandem with like-minded young people to share ideas.
Social
- To provide an opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to cross social and cultural divides through youth drama experiences.
Personal
- To support the personal development of all members, with particular emphasis on confidence-building, teamwork and leadership skills.
Educational
- To train young people in all aspects of theatre-making, including performance, writing, direction, design and technical skills.
- To encourage members to apply their youth theatre experience to, and pursue their skills and talents at, Second and Third level education.
Artistic
- To introduce members to a rich tradition of theatre and its contemporary practices.
- To facilitate their exploration and expression of personal and artistic concepts.
- To provide an opportunity for young people in Limerick City and the hinterland to participate in all aspects of producing theatrical works of the highest possible professional standards.
For the Community
- To contribute to the artistic life of the city through performance in the Belltable and other venues and through joint projects with other youth/community/arts organisations.
- To meet and entertain members’ families and communities, particularly targeting those who have not had previous access to or experience of the arts.
- To provide the local and national arts communities with the next generation of artists, workers, participants and audiences.
