Introduction

Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) provides a two-year training course in theatre and performance arts. Besides our own productions we organise outings to other companies and collaborate with groups across Limerick and area. We arrange volunteer placements and have a busy outreach programme.

Full or part-scholarships as well as work placement in the theatre are available.

Applying To LYT

To join LYT you must submit an application form and meet the requirements:

  1. be between 16 and 23 years old
  2. be available for workshops on Saturdays in Limerick
  3. be willing to devote time to rehearsals, productions, outings, festivals, and so on
  4. pass an audition

Previous experience is not necessary as enthusiasm and commitment will take you very far.

There are only 25 places each year so we like to see how you work in a team. There’s no standing on the spot reciting Shakespeare; the audition is a workshop with group games, improvisation and plenty of room for your imagination.

Thanks to the support listed at the bottom of each page, membership is just 200 Euros per year.

A Word From Ella

‘As a past member I can honestly say joining LYT can be a life-changing experience. From audition to graduation it’s a roller-coaster of fun, frolics and devilment! Over the course of two years you can take part in theatre productions, make short films, design costumes, set, lights and sound… there are countless opportunities to shine.

You can make great friendships and work with the current generation of top theatre directors, facilitators, performers, film-makers and visual artists in Ireland. You are then on your way to being part of the next generation of top theatre directors, facilitators…

This is an opportunity to gain self-confidence, express yourself and learn new skills. And you can do it all while having the time of your life!’

Ella Daly, General Manager, Dublin Youth Theatre
